Amelia Barrett was heiress to the grand Winterwood estate in
Darbury England in 1814. But right before her friend Katherine died she asked
that Amelia take care of her newborn baby, Lucy. And even though Amelia could risk everything
by doing so she was determined to keep her promise and raise Lucy. Amelia loved
the baby as if she were her own.
But to inherit the estate and money where she
could raise and care for Lucy she had to be married soon or it would all pass
to someone else. But the man she was engaged to said she could not keep the baby after
the wedding. So in order to keep Lucy she came up with a plan. When Lucy’s
Father, Captain Sterling, returned from the sea for a few weeks and came to see
Lucy for the first time Amelia proposed to him.
But when the baby is kidnaped
with few clues to where she is and who did it, they worked hard and fast to try
to find the child. But they must learn to have faith and not rely only on their
self’s to save little Lucy.
The back cover of this book does tell about it, but
I don’t think it does the book justice! The story is just so wonderful! It had
me hooked from the beginning, and I had a hard time keeping my hands off the
book! The people in the story were very well done, and I loved the time period
the story in set in. Plus I really liked how even near the end of the book
there were still surprises happening! It was a amazing book and I highly
recommend it!
