We have had some beautiful blooms this year around here. From orchids indoors, to the flower gardens outside, there were a lot of great flowers to enjoy. Here are just a few pictures of them. And yes, some of them may be made of crochet thread... But that should still count.
My newest cactus pattern is 50% off for a limited time with coupon code, NEWCACTUS~~~~~~~~~~~Say hello to the blooming barrel cactus. It makes a cute "house plant" that you never have toworry about watering. And you can customize the flower color to match your decor. Plus if youenjoy sewing it makes a fun pincushion to use or give as a gift. Simply change the stuffing outfor a more pincushion appropriate filling. For some reason the thought of a cactus and sewingneedles go together so well…

I plan on releasing a new pattern early next month for a cute pair of tiny baskets. Both baskets have a different texture and height, but they are both about 3 1/2" wide. They make a fun and quick little project, so be sure to check back later for more details.
Today my newest pattern, River Time Coasters, was released! You can find it here in my Etsy shop. And until 9-16-21 I am offering it on a 25% off sale. It is a great stash busting project, as it only takes about 20-25 yards of worsted weight cotton yarn. And they can be made in any color you want. Making them perfect for matching whatever decor you have, or for a last minute project for gift giving.
I am very excited about the new O'Go yarn now becoming available! It is the same yarn you know and enjoy. From well known brands like Bernat Blanket, Caron, and Red Heart. In solid colors, and multi colored options.
But instead of being in a skein or cake... it comes in something really new and cool. It comes packaged in a round doughnut shape, with a single plastic thread running through the middle. After removing the label you simply cut the plastic thread where the two ends of the yarn bundle meet, then pull the plastic thread right out. Leaving you with an interesting caterpillar shaped yarn bundle.
And that is it! Now you just grab the outside tail of yarn and start stitching. But instead of the yarn unwinding top to bottom like a normal skein, it unwinds cone like in a small section at a time. Making yarn tension so much easier, as it glides right off the yarn bundle without any tugging needed. And it does not roll away like a yarn ball could! Plus you get the fun of watching the caterpillar of yarn get shorter and shorter as you work on your project. Kind of like a timer getting closer and closer to being finished...
And now for one of my favorite parts. Unlike a yarn cake or skein, with the O'Go yarn you can easily separate the colors without having to rewind it! You just hold onto both sides of where the color changes, then simply pull the two colors apart. And the two colors just pop apart! Perfect for if you are doing color work, or even just needing small amounts of different colors for a little project. So if you are making something small like say amigurumi, and you needed 5 different colors, instead of getting 5 whole skeins of each color you could just get one doughnut of Red Heart O'Go instead.
One small downside to the O'Go yarn is that even though you are still getting the same amount of yardage that you would get in the matching skein form, there is a small price increase. Which I have heard is to help cover the production cost because of the new equipment that was needed.
But for something that should be tangle free, does not collapse part way through, stays in place easier while you work, and makes it easy to separate the colors, I feel the extra $1 or so would be worth the price.

Today I released my newest pattern in my Etsy shop! It is called the Country Basket Purse, and it will be on sale for 50% off the first week it is listed.

A lot of people may not like the blocking part of finishing their projects. But it is always a good idea to do it. Blocking can really change the finished look you get. And it is fun to watch your project blossom into an even more beautiful item with a nice finished look.
The benefits of blocking are also a good thing to keep in mind the next time you stop by a thrift shop. Recently I found an little old pile of lace at a secondhand store that turned out to be a rumpled doily. When I spread it out it looked very nice, but it would not even lay flat it needed blocked so badly. I brought it home and tried to clean off a few tiny stains, washed it, and gave it a good blocking. And was I ever in for a surprise!
It turned out to be a huge hand knit doily that was just amazing. And it even seems to be made of pure silk! You never know what treasures are waiting for you to find at your local thrift shop. And who doesn't like a good treasure hunt? :)
