Fiber Fun Month ~ Saxony Spinning Wheel + Spinning Wheel Review

Saturday, December 14, 2013

The Saxony style spinning wheel is probably the most familiar spinning wheel to most people. It is even referred to as the “Cinderella” wheel.

The parts of a Saxony spinning wheel are placed horizontally with a large wheel at one end and the flyer and bobbin on the other side. And it normally has three legs. The Ashford Traditional spinning wheel is a good example of a Saxony.

I just bought a Ashford Traditional this fall and I love it. It is a beautiful yet simple spinning wheel and is just wonderful. The wheel is very balanced and you can tell it was made really well. It was not to hard to put together and came with very simple instructions. Plus it came with a great little booklet on how to spin. I am very happy with it and look forward to using it for many years.
