Tenley Roth’s first book was a runaway bestseller. But now that she is trying to write her next book, writers block has set in. But when her estranged mother calls asking Tenley for help through her upcoming chemotherapy, Tenley feels like she needs to help. So she packs up and heads to Florida. Where, in between helping her mom, she struggles to write her next book at an old antique desk.

A century earlier another woman wrote at the same desk. Birdie Shehorn was the daughter of a wealthy family in the Gilded Age. But her mother was strict and controlling. Planning out Birdie's life herself without a say so from her daughter. But Birdie dreamed of writing novels and making her own choices in life. When her mother goes a step to far to manipulate her daughter's future, Birdie must choose between giving in to her mother's will, or finding a way to choose the life she really wants.

The Writing Desk By Rachel Hauck was such an amazing book! It was hard to put this story down, and it had me staying up late to finish it. It was wonderfully written and it was easy to connect with the characters. Normally when I read a book with two stories going on in it, I really get into the one side of the story and the other side just feels like it is in the way. But with this book the modern story and the historical story were both so wonderfully done I loved them both! Being a history lover, I really enjoyed seeing how the stories blended together perfectly. I highly recommend this book!

I received this book free from the publisher, Zondervan, through the BookLook Bloggers book review program. The opinions are my own.
